hite House News App Rockets Past 2 Million Downloads in Days
WASHINGTON — The White House’s brand‑new mobile app has exploded in popularity, racking up nearly 2 million downloads just days after launch, according to data shared with The Washington Post and other outlets.
The app — unveiled March 27 — promises “news straight from the source, no filter”, combining official announcements, livestreams, photos, and social media posts from President Trump’s team. It’s designed to bypass traditional media and deliver updates directly to users’ phones.
By April 5, downloads had already hit 1.84 million, split between 1.4 million Android users and 436,000 iPhone users, with officials saying the total likely crossed the 2‑million mark after reporting delays.
“This is an unprecedented step toward transparency,” said one administration official. “It’s another example of going directly to the American people instead of relying on legacy media.”
The app’s description teases interactive features — including the ability for users to submit questions or feedback directly to the President — and push notifications for breaking news on executive actions and national priorities.
Critics, however, warn that the app’s “unfiltered” approach could blur the line between official communication and political messaging. Supporters counter that it’s a modern evolution of press access — a digital podium for the Oval Office.
